New Shabbat Prayer Book Finally Ready

Come celebrate our latest ambitious publication. It’s the S&P’s first completely revised Shabbat prayer book for 120 years and the Society of Heshaim is inviting the whole community to the book launch. Copies of Sabbath Prayers will be available to see and handle. You’ll learn about the years of work involved and what makes this project so unique and exciting.

The translation is completely new, in modern English and intended to be read aloud.  The Hebrew font is easier to read than the old one. There are new instructions for people unfamiliar with the ancient Spanish & Portuguese ritual. Everything from Friday afternoon to the end of Shabbat features in the book, including songs for the Shabbat table. There’s no more confusing page changes, as everything reads continuously.  There are even texts that have never previously featured in any Sephardi prayer book.

The Standard Version is a slimmer volume with just the prayers. The Enhanced Edition is weightier, with the music of each song and response, as well as tables for every Shabbat reading until 2100. Both have an attractive cover showing an embroidered tree of life. The Enhanced Edition appears also in a special red-cloth presentation binding.
