WHO WE ARE

The Board of Guardians was established in 1837 to centralise charities formerly known from the earliest days as Sedaca. It was renamed The Spanish & Portuguese Synagogue Welfare Board in 1966.

The Welfare Board provides financial help and a range of other services for Sephardim living in the United Kingdom regardless of their membership to the congregation.
Nearly all clients live in London, eg Stamford Hill, Golders Green, Hendon, Edgware and Mill Hill with a small number living in other areas.

While some approach the Board directly others are referred to us by outside organisations, such as Norwood and Jewish Care. Help is provided quickly to those in need.

WHAT WE DO

Clients are usually visited in their own homes from time to time by our volunteer visitors who make an independent assessment of their needs.

Festival grants are given at Pesach and Rosh HaShanah.

Fuel grants are provided in the winter.

One-off grants are given towards the cost of household items, such as cookers, fridges, beds, as well as outstanding bills and clothing.

Grants are also offered for school uniforms.

Summer holiday grants – for families where either or both children and parents have serious physical, mental health or financial problems.

WHO WE HELP

Unemployed and families on low income in receipt of State Benefits severely disabled parents/children or with other serious health issues and single parents.

WE WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU
