New for 2025 – TIKVAH – The Millstone Programme for school years 7-9

About TIKVAH

Tikvah is a leading American Jewish think tank and educational institution.  It runs initiatives in Israel, US and around the world including educational programmes, publications and fellowships.  Tikvah’s stated purpose is to shape the rising generation of Jewish Zionist leaders and its educational model aims to form young Jews with moral confidence and civic courage.

Its educational strategy is focused on cultivating young Jews in the best of Jewish, Western, and American civilization. Tikvah invests in serious students from middle school to high school to college to their early careers. Their aim is to develop a new generation of Jewish leaders who believe in Jewish exceptionalism and who boldly commit to facing the greatest moral, political, and strategic challenges of the modern age.

The Millstone Programme

Now in its fourth year, this programme, aimed at students in years 7-9, currently has 30 cohorts across America. The sessions run as in person seminar style classes focusing on Jewish history and heritage.  The classes are intellectually serious but in a relaxed learning setting with the aim to strengthen Jewish identity. Tikvah recruits only working professionals or graduates to teach the programme and they will support us in recruiting a high calibre teacher from the UK including contributing a grant to the salary.  The teacher will be trained by Tikvah and become part of their teacher network.

Sessions will run on Sunday mornings for 75 minutes at Lauderdale Road.

Tikvah are happy to commence the programme for 10-12 enrolled students.

The programme is divided into 3 modules one for each term:

Autumn – Foundations of Jewish thought
Spring – The Founding of Modern Israel
Summer – The Jewish Experience in the UK – this module will be written specially for us as the current module is entitled The Jewish Experience in America

Cost and Registration

The annual cost of the programme is £720 for S&P members which equates to £30 per session.
The non-member price will be £800.

The costs cover some of the teacher salary, the resource books which will be sent from the USA and weekly refreshments.

To commence the teacher recruitment, I need to be able to confirm with Tikvah that we have enough students who have committed to joining the programme.
You are invited to register and pay a deposit of £150 (which will be deducted from the total amount for the course).

You will be invoiced for the remainder prior to the commencement of the programme in November.

Should the course not proceed due to insufficient interest your deposit will be refunded.
