Genealogy

Our archives contain genealogical records dating from the 17th century to the end of the 19th century. These births, circumcisions, marriages and burials have been published in the Bevis Marks’ Records series Parts II-Vi. These volumes are available to purchase from the synagogue or may be consulted in libraries such as the Guildhall, Society of Genealogists, London Metropolitan Archives and Jewish Genealogical Society of Great Britain.

The synagogue’s  archivists are willing to respond to enquirers about specific families. Enquiries may incur a charge according to the research required, the charge incurred being in the range £10-£25, payable before the dispatch of the information.

The earliest burial register of the congregation was published by the Jewish Historical Society of England in 1962 as Miscellanies VI.
