Join Rabbi Kada in conversation with Dayan Ofer Livnat: The functions of the Beth Din in the Modern World

o    How do we synthesise civil law with Jewish law?

o    What does a Beth Din need to check before a marriage can be authorised?
o    How does a Beth Din oversee kashrut?

Dayan Ofe Livnat serves as a Dayan on the Sephardi Beth of London. A graduate of the Eretz Hemdah Institute for Advanced Jewish Studies in Jerusalem, Dayan Livnat teaches in a number of programs for training rabbis and Dayanim, including the Semicha and Dayanut Programs run jointly by the Montefiore Endowment of London and Eretz Hemdah. A lecturer on Tanach at the Jerusalem College as well, Dayan Livnat has previously served in an artillery unit in the IDF and is currently studying for a PhD in Jewish studies at University College London.

Rabbi Daniel Kada is the rabbi of Wembley Sephardi Synagogue and registrar of the Spanish and Portuguese Sephardi Beth Din. He is currently studying towards a Dayanut qualification run jointly by the Montefiore Endowment and Eretz Hemdah institute of Jerusalem.
